The Tema Oil Refinery has confirmed the arrival of approximately one million barrels of Bonga Crude Oil carried onboard the MT Cap Felix, marking a significant development in its ongoing refinery revitalisation and crude processing programme.
According to the refinery, the shipment was procured from Shell and delivered through its tolling partner, Fujeirah/Triangle Commodities Trading (TCT), under a structured arrangement designed to support operational recovery and strengthen consistent petroleum supply within the Ghanaian market.
Management indicated that the receipt of the Bonga Crude represents a key milestone in efforts to restore stable refining operations, enhance national energy security, and reduce reliance on imported refined petroleum products in Ghana.
Bonga Crude, which is recognised for its high quality, low sulphur content and efficient refining yield, is expected to produce a range of petroleum products including liquefied petroleum gas, gasoline, diesel, kerosene, aviation turbine kerosene and fuel oil, which will serve both domestic consumption and regional distribution needs.
The management of the refinery expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana, regulatory bodies, financial partners and other stakeholders whose continued support has contributed to what it described as a steady operational resurgence of the facility.
The statement further reaffirmed the refinery’s commitment to transparency, operational excellence, environmental responsibility and a long term transformation agenda aimed at positioning the facility as a competitive and commercially sustainable energy hub for Ghana and the wider West African sub region.
Authorities at TOR added that engagement with stakeholders and the public will continue as operations progress, ensuring openness and sustained confidence in the refinery’s recovery path.
