Organised under the theme “Driving Sustainable Investment for Ghana’s Film Industry,” the initiative is expected to reinforce the institutional and financial foundations of the country’s creative sector while positioning the industry as a powerful engine for economic advancement, youth empowerment, tourism promotion, cultural influence, and investment generation.

Addressing stakeholders during the ceremony, Kafui Danku, Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority, described the Fund as a strategic response to the persistent financial constraints that have slowed the expansion of Ghana’s film industry over the years.

According to her, the Film Development Fund has been designed to promote the long term advancement of Ghana’s film and audiovisual ecosystem through financial assistance for film production, distribution, exhibition, professional training, infrastructure expansion, innovation, audience development, and other essential interventions across the sector.

Kafui Danku stated that the launch represents a defining milestone in Ghana’s efforts to reposition its film and audiovisual industry into a more structured, sustainable, and globally respected sector capable of making substantial contributions to national progress.

She observed that the absence of reliable and sustainable financing has historically undermined the growth of film production, distribution, and exhibition within the country, making the establishment of the Fund a crucial development for industry practitioners.

Beyond supporting filmmakers, producers, distributors, and cinema operators, she explained that the initiative would also create fresh opportunities for creative entrepreneurs and emerging talents while encouraging innovation and strengthening audience participation within the entertainment sector.

The Chief Executive Officer further outlined the Authority’s broader strategic vision of attracting investment and partnership opportunities into Ghana’s film and audiovisual ecosystem. She emphasised that meaningful collaboration involving government institutions, corporate organisations, financial institutions, and development partners would be essential in securing the long term stability of the industry.

As part of the inauguration ceremony, the National Film Authority officially introduced the Film Development Fund Management Committee together with the Film Classification Committee in an effort to reinforce governance standards, transparency, accountability, and regulation within the creative industry.

While the Fund Management Committee is expected to supervise the efficient administration and strategic implementation of the Fund, the Film Classification Committee will oversee responsible content classification and maintain professional standards across Ghana’s evolving film environment.

Kafui Danku reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to promoting local productions, broadening public access to Ghanaian films, and enhancing cinema and exhibition infrastructure throughout the country.

The event attracted government representatives, members of the NFA Governing Board, film guilds and associations, producers, directors, actors, exhibitors, distributors, broadcasters, digital streaming platforms, financial institutions, corporate organisations, development partners, diplomatic representatives, media houses, and several stakeholders within Ghana’s creative arts sector.

Major activities during the programme included a keynote presentation, a detailed overview of the Film Development Fund, goodwill messages from government officials, the unveiling of the Authority’s strategic roadmap for audience engagement, networking engagements, and media interactions.

The launch is anticipated to strengthen public awareness and investor confidence in Ghana’s film industry while deepening collaboration between the creative sector and Corporate Ghana. It is also expected to reinforce national commitment toward building a sustainable and globally recognised audiovisual industry.

Kafui Danku additionally conveyed appreciation to John Dramani Mahama for his continued support for Ghana’s creative arts and entertainment industry.
