The National Seed Traders Association of Ghana (NaSTAG) on Tuesday, 28th April, 2026 officially launched its 10th anniversary celebrations in Wenchi of the Bono Region.
Speaking at the launch, President of NaSTAG Mr. Seidu Abdulai Mubarak said the 10th anniversary celebration is a milestone that reflects a decade of resilience, partnerships, and progress in Ghana’s seed sector.
He noted that the celebration intends to boost NaSTAG visibility, showcase its achievements, and solidify its role in advancing agricultural development through private sector participation.
The theme for NaSTAG 10th anniversary celebration is a “Decade of Resilience and Innovative: Building Stronger Partnerships for Ghana’s Food Security”.
Ten years ago, following a stakeholders meeting supported by USAID, a vision was born to unite actors across Ghana’s seed value chain, strengthen regulatory systems, and ensure that farmers have access to quality, certified seed.
“Today, we stand as evidence that collaboration, even in the face of challenges, can transform an entire sector,” he said.
Furthermore he said over the past decade, NaSTAG has played a critical role in shaping Ghana’s seed ecosystem.
Among key achievements by NaSTAG are the achievement of seed traceability systems, helping to improve transparency and reduce the circulation of counterfeit seed, the development of a national seed producer catalogue, making it easier for farmers and stakeholders to identify credible sources, contribution to the National Seed Plan, aligning stakeholders around a shared vision for the sector, the creation of ‘Seedlink’, a platform that amplifies the voice of the seed sector in influencing policy decisions.
He said that other achievements include the continuous training of smallholder farmers, who remain at the heart of our agricultural system, and sustained efforts in bringing seed producers together, fostering unity, knowledge sharing, and growth.
“Despite these constraints, NaSTAG has remained resilient, as we look to the future, our call is clear. We must strengthen partnerships between government, private sector actors, development partners, and farmers. Food security is not the responsibility of one institution. It is a shared national priority,” Mr. Seidu Abdulai Mubarak reiterated.
He therefore called on government to deepen its support for the seed sector, recognizing that quality seed is the foundation of agricultural productivity.
NaSTAG also urged development partners and private sector actors to invest more strategically in building a robust, sustainable seed system.
Mr. Seidu Abdulai Mubarak on behalf of NaSTAG assured farmers on its commitment to ensuring that the seeds you plant are not just seeds, but a promise of yield, resilience, and improved livelihoods.
