The Ghana Police Service has announced heightened security measures across the country ahead of activities marking the 31st December Watchnight and New Year crossover celebrations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, December 31, the Police assured the public that comprehensive arrangements have been put in place to guarantee safety, maintain public order, and protect lives and property as Ghanaians usher in the New Year.
Enhanced Security Presence Nationwide
According to the statement, police personnel have been strategically deployed across major cities, towns, and communities to provide visible security coverage throughout the night. Patrols have been intensified around churches, entertainment venues, public squares, and other locations expected to attract large crowds.
The Police explained that the enhanced presence is intended to deter crime, respond quickly to emergencies, and ensure a peaceful celebration nationwide.
Traffic and Crowd Control Measures
In addition to general patrols, traffic officers have been positioned at key intersections and along major highways to manage traffic flow and prevent congestion, especially in areas where crossover services and events are expected to run late into the night.
Special attention is also being given to venues hosting large gatherings, including churches, open-air grounds, and entertainment centres, where additional security personnel have been assigned to manage crowd movement and ensure public safety.
Call for Public Cooperation
The Police Service has urged members of the public to cooperate fully with officers on duty and to remain alert throughout the celebrations. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity and comply with security checks where necessary.
The statement emphasized that maintaining peace and safety during the festive period is a shared responsibility between security agencies and the public.
As Ghanaians prepare to welcome the New Year, the Police have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a calm, secure, and incident-free crossover across the country.
