A majority of Ghanaian voters support extending the presidential term from four to five years, according to findings from a new nationwide survey conducted by research firm Global InfoAnalytics.

The poll, released this week, indicates that 57 percent of respondents are in favour of the proposed extension, while 36 percent oppose the idea. The remaining 7 percent said they were undecided.

The proposal forms part of recommendations contained in the Constitutional Review Commission’s report, which was released earlier this month and has sparked renewed public debate on governance reforms.

Support for Other Constitutional Reforms

Beyond the presidential term extension, the survey also revealed strong public backing for separating the roles of Members of Parliament and Ministers of State.

According to the findings, 58 percent of respondents support a proposal to bar Members of Parliament from serving as ministers, while 32 percent oppose the idea. About 10 percent indicated they were unsure.

The poll also captured opinions on lowering the minimum age required to contest the presidency. Results show that 55 percent of respondents are in favour of reducing the age limit, while 35 percent are opposed. Another 10 percent expressed no clear position.

Survey Methodology

Global InfoAnalytics conducted the survey between December 1 and December 21, 2025, using a combination of online questionnaires, telephone interviews, and face-to-face interviews.

The poll sampled 13,495 registered voters drawn from across the country, making it one of the most extensive public opinion surveys conducted on the proposed constitutional reforms to date.

Public Debate Continues

The findings add momentum to the ongoing national conversation around constitutional reform, governance efficiency, and political accountability.

As discussions continue, the results are expected to influence public discourse and policy considerations ahead of any potential constitutional amendments.
