The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) has suspended its action of suspending healthcare services to NHIS cardholders which took immediate effect on Friday, 4th of April, 2025.
This is due to a firm assurance from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to settle outstanding claims owed to service providers by close of day of Monday, 7th April, 2025.
This development comes after PHFAoG temporarily suspended healthcare service provision to card bearing members of the NHIS due to the long delay in the reimbursement of claims which has led to a severe financial crunch of the private healthcare sector.
A release signed by Dr. Kwame Buabeng-Frimpong, President of the association stated that after an exhaustive meeting with the management of the NHIA, they have been given a renewed assurance of payment by close of business on Monday, 7th April, 2025.
“On the back of this development, coupled with a show of good faith by the Authority, we have decided to suspend the ongoing action. Nonetheless, PHFAoG shall readily resort to a drastic action in the future should the Authority renege on its promise to the Association,” the statement noted.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr. Asare Bampoe after the meeting with the leadership of PHFAoG, reiterated his strong desire and commitment towards ensuring a seamless and unbridled reimbursement regime under his tenure as part of his philosophy of contributing to building a responsive and robust health sector in Ghana.
“All private healthcare facilities nationwide are therefore advised to adhere to this directive in all humility and continue to provide healthcare to the best of their capacity towards ensuring a healthy population,” the statement concluded.
