The Registrar-General at the Office of Registry of Companies (ORC), Mrs Jemima Oware, has been terminated by the Office of the President. She has also been locked out of her office, leaving the ORC in limbo.

She was terminated in a letter dated 28th February, 2025, even though her contract was supposed to end in May, 2025.

Reports reaching the Daily Searchlight however indicate that since Wednesday, last week, the Office of Registry of Companies (ORC) has been unable to print out certificates and other necessary documentation because Mrs Jemima Oware has been blocked out of office by operatives from National Security, who come to park at the premises with the sole intent of ensuring that she does not gain access to her office.

This has led to a hold-up, because she is unable to access necessary computer terminals that would facilitate the work of the ORC.

Her contract of employment was due to end in May, but was unceremoniously terminated by a letter written by Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President of Ghana, Mr. John Mahama.

Dr. Callistus Mahama, who was terminated under similar circumstances in January 2017, is fast gaining a reputation as the Official Hatchet Man of the Mahama Administration.

The termination was however effected at a time when there has not been any official handing over, leading to the current crisis at the ORC.

In conversation with Mrs. Jemima Oware yesterday, she told the Daily Searchlight that her contract was supposed to end in May, 2025.

She however stated that she was unceremoniously terminated by letter on 28th February, 2025 from Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President.

On why the ORC has not been able to print out certificates since Wednesday last week, she explained that under normal circumstances, there is an official handing over from one Registrar to the next, and this has not been done.

“Currently, it is my signature that is on all certificates. There is therefore the need to hand over officially so that the necessary processes can be complied with, and this has not been done,” she stated.

The Daily Searchlight has learnt that an official from the Western Region office of the ORC has been brought in to manage the place at this time, but she is unable to process certificates until certain necessary processes are complied with.
