The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) paid a courtesy call on the University of Mines and Technology – UMaT (UMaT) in Tarkwa. The delegation engaged with Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard K. Amankwah and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Anthony Simons, focusing on fostering partnerships to bridge the gap between academia and industry, especially in Ghana’s extractive sector.
President Stephane Miezan highlighted the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to formalizing partnerships with UMaT to ensure students benefit from robust internship and attachment programs. He encouraged UMaT to strengthen ties with the private sector to align academic objectives with industry requirements, equipping students to succeed in an increasingly competitive job market.
Professor Amankwah commended the Chamber’s Junior Chamber initiative, which will provide students with mentorship opportunities, hands-on experience, and exposure to real-world business environments. He further emphasized the importance of structured internships and practical training in preparing graduates for the demands of the modern workforce.

UMaT, known for its specialization in mining, petroleum, and related disciplines, plays a critical role in equipping students with practical skills and technical knowledge. The Chamber’s aim is to empower these students, enhance private sector growth, and drive sustainable economic development.
